The School site is located at Jalan Dutamas Raya which is in the North of Mont Kiara neighborhood wherein the Kuala Lumpur French International School is located. The neighborhood is populated by medium to medium-high priced condominiums namely 28 Dutamas by BTHD (an on going project), Prima Duta, Duta Ria, Anggunpuri, Villa Makmur, Menara Duta 1 & 2, Verdana by BDRB (an on going project) and Concerto Kiara by BCB (an on going project).
The School is about 9 kilometers by road to Kuala Lumpur city centre, Petaling Jaya city centre, Kepong town centre and 2 kilometers to Mont Kiara neighborhood. It is accessible from Kuala Lumpur city center via Jalan Duta or Jalan Segambut and from Petaling Jaya city centre via Jalan Bukit Kiara and Persianran Dutamas.
Boasting a priceless location, between Kuala Lumpur’s city centre and Petaling Jaya, the School is well-connected via multiple routes. It is a mere 9km away from Kuala Lumpur’s city centre, and is a stone’s throw away from the neighborhoods of Mont’ Kiara.
Accessible via Jalan Duta, Jalan Bukit Kiara, Jalan Segambut and Sri Hartamas, the School connects to almost every exit around the Klang Valley. The SPRINT Highway, North Klang Valley Elevated Highway (NKVE) and Damansara-Ulu Kelang Elevated Highway (DUKE) are all within minutes from the School, making travelling back and forth a breeze. As such it has excellent connectivity to the Kuala Lumpur city centre and Petaling Jaya. It is in close proximity to Bukit Segambut. North of the proposed site is Kepong while to the North East of the proposed site are Taman Segambut and Sentul. Mont Kiara and Sri Hartamas are to the South of the proposed site along with Jalan Duta-Sungai Buloh Expressway (NKVE). Its location is also in close proximity to the NKVE, DUKE and Jalan Duta Toll plaza.
In more detail, the access road to the proposed site is through the Sungai Teba area, which is Jalan Dutamas Raya (previously known as Jalan 1/38B). The other schools within the same vicinity are (Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan Segambut Makmur) and a French International School (Lycee Francois de Kuala Lumpur). As such the proposed site location is very strategic to build a private institution (primary or/and secondary) given that it is located in a residential zone and is well suited for a school.
BTH’s consultant evaluated related data and conducted interviews with related stakeholder groups in order to ascertain the potential catchment area for the proposed school project. From discussions, BTH learned that the average commute time for a private school in Kuala Lumpur is up to one hour. Moreover, transportation to and from the campus is often privately provided by parents who employ a personal driver to transport their children or a bussing system. The commuting norms of students in KL imply a fairly large catchment area that encompasses the greater metropolitan area.
Whilst commuting to and from school seems to be normal for most students in KL it is worth noting that the proposed site is located near residential developments that will likely add a significant population of affluent families within a reasonable radius.
The School will primarily target affluent, motivated, intellectually curious students starting at the Pre-primary level and extending through to 11th grade.
It is also situated in close proximity to Bangsar, Damansara Heights, Sri Hartamas and Mont Kiara from which it is easily accessible.
Affluent families with one or more children with the age suited for Pre-primary through to Grade 5 are the initial target market for the first phase of the school. Based on the geographic location of the proposed project site, the school will target residential developments in three identified catchment areas as presented in the chart below. The ‘primary’ catchement area is within 30 minutes of driving distance, and would be considered the optimal market. The ‘secondary’ area is within 60 minutes of driving, and is considered by parents as the maximum driving distance to a school.
